Pictures from our trip to Maine, January 2003. (Who goes to Maine in
January?)

The
family farmhouse in Alton Maine, near Bangor. Bob's mother grew
up here. Reed (Bob's cousin) and Karen (Reed's wife) live here now.
 Left:

the kitchen. Right, clockwise from the back: Jane, Carrie (Reed's
mother), Reed, Mary (Carrie's
cousin), and Karen.
Other views of the farm and surrounding land.

Jane and Bob set off on a day trip to the Maine coast. Yes, it was
cold... note the ice in the foreground. But the landscapes were
pretty.

Day three: Cross-country skiing! This should be fun. Bob and Jane
have never done this before.
As
this picture shows.
 Karen
demonstrates how it really should be done. (At least we were all dressed
properly for the cold!)

After skiing, we stopped at the cabin, built by Grampie (Reed and Bob's grandfather). Reed's father Virgil
added the front porch. Jeff (center photo) stopped by for coffee before
going out to cut some trees.

Our trek into the "gnarly forest."
Below, Reed and Karen pose next to what is perhaps a record-breaking white birch
tree.

Carrie's house in Brewer (near Bangor); Reed
and Carrie waving good-bye.
