previous chapter top next chapter INTRODUCTIONI undertake this task with great fear and trepidation, knowing that I may never get it completed and that someone will be bound to say that I shouldn't have written about certain things. Of course, it is also possible that many will ask, "Who cares?" The first two I am stuck with, but as to who cares: I do. When I began working on the Bybee genealogy in the mid-1980s, I soon found that I had begun about forty years too late. Had I started in my younger years I would have had access to information which is now lost forever. Those who knew many things about the Bybees have passed on. I, being the sole surviving child of Pearl J. and Cecil Zellers Bybee, want to put on record the things that I remember about our family, the times, the troubles and a few mountain tops. Maybe no one is asking (they aren't) but I'm telling, anyway. My son, my nieces, my nephew, and their descendants may find someday that they are glad I took the time to get it all down. If this opus should ever survive to the point of needing a title, I'm not sure what it will be. An old evening soap opera-type of radio show was called, "One Man's Family." That seems appropriate. Genealogical information is passed around among enthusiasts very freely. Because of this, some of the information included in this book may be infringing or even plagiarizing. I sincerely hope not, but if so believe me it is not intentional! As far as I am concerned, any of the family history/genealogy in this book may be used without restriction.
