These photos come from Bob's days as a staff
photographer for the Cavalier Daily (the University of Virginia's newspaper)
and an avid rock 'n' roll fan. Some things never change... |

Technical details: All photos were taken with a fully-manual Pentax Spotmatic II 35mm SLR and a Vivitar 80-200 mm f/4 lens. All used Ektachrome 400 speed film, push-processed to 800. If I remember correctly, exposures were 1/60 second at f/4 to f/8, with the aperture selected according to how bright I thought the stage was going to be next. A light meter is basically useless with spotlights on the subject and a pitch-dark background. Slides were converted to a Photo CD by Imagers. Files were then opened in Photoshop 7, cropped and sized for the web, and levels adjusted slightly. All colors and lighting effects are the same as on the original slides. For best results, store your slides in a cool, dark closet for about 30 years before doing a web page like this. |
